PROMINENT RESEARCH PROJECTS:
Anti-Sexual Harassment Arabic Language Training Videos: The first of the their kind in the Middle East, North African region, these videos define sexual harassment, help viewers understand how to speak up against it when they experience it or see it and promote reporting such crimes. The videos, created through a participatory action research and collaborative art making model, seek to educate young people about the ways in which sexual harassment can disguise itself.
Documentary Theatre in Egypt: The verbatim play Dream Hope Wish Desire shares the stories of numerous Cairenes from different backgrounds and socio-economic classes as recorded through a series of almost 60 personal interviews. Performed in both English and Arabic the play seeks to shed light on the experiences of the inhabitants of the city after the revolution.
The Puzzle Club: Brain Injury Survivors Talk: This arts-based ethnography utilized verbatim playwriting as a form of collecting and analyzing data and performance as the means of sharing the results. Survivors of both acquired and traumatic brain injuries worked with actors to bring the totality of their experiences to light. The film The Puzzle Club and the subsequent documentary about the collaborative process are used by hospitals and rehabilitation centers to help survivors and families understand that they is hope after this life changing event. project started by brain-injury survivors, a drama professor and actors dramatize the survivors' stories.
